It doesn't get any simpler than this! This instrument is nothing more than described by its name - a block of wood! Other than being just that, a slit is cut into the side so that one side (in this case, the top) will resonate more than the others producing a loud tapping sound when struck. Of course, any side may be struck - if that produces the desired sound.
